Chaired by the President of Ukraine, the NSDC of Ukraine adopted a number of topical decisions in economic and military security at a meeting on Thursday

Chaired by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine was held, at which a number of topical decisions in economic and military security were adopted.

In particular, the proposals of the NSDC members to the draft Economic Security Strategy of Ukraine for the period up to 2025, submitted by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, were considered at the meeting.

During the meeting, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested that the National Security and Defense Council and the Office of the President, in cooperation with the Antimonopoly Committee, develop a new bill on oligarchs.

“We did not have such a thing in Ukraine. I believe that today it is one of the priorities - to develop a fundamental bill on the status of the oligarch in our country: what will happen to these people, what sanctions will be applied, how the oligarchs will become businessmen. Because we support big business, any business in Ukraine. And the influence of the oligarchs on Ukraine - on the elections, on the economy, on the laws, on the Verkhovna Rada - this can no longer be allowed”, - the President stressed.

The NSDC of Ukraine also considered the implementation of the sanctions policy. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal presented information on the status of implementing paragraph 7 of the Council decision of 14 May 2020 “On the Application, Lifting and Amendment of Personal Special Economic and Other Restrictive Measures (Sanctions)”, enacted by the Decree of the President of Ukraine of May 14, 2020 №184.

Based on the results of considering this issue, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine was instructed to prepare and submit to the President of Ukraine a draft law on amendments to legislative acts to improve the application, implementation and monitoring of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions).

The decision of the NSDC of Ukraine also imposed sanctions on a number of legal entities and individuals.

The NSDC of Ukraine also heard a report by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine Oleh Uruskyy on the results of the review of the defense-industrial complex.

Based on the results of the review of the defense-industrial complex, the level of institutional maturity of the defense industry management, the state of its resourcing, as well as the capability and readiness of the defense-industrial complex to meet the needs of the security and defense sector in armaments, ammunition, military and special equipment taking into account the urgent military-political threats and challenges.

The NSDC of Ukraine paid special attention to measures of the state regional policy in support of decentralization of power.

Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov stressed that the reform of decentralization of power in Ukraine “is one of the fundamental factors of state formation and human capital development, raising living conditions and living standards in 1421 territorial communities we have after the local elections in 2020”.

According to him, the decentralization process requires strengthening its capacities and “solving key systemic tasks”, in particular, to enable local communities to administer local taxes and fees, a fairer distribution of local budget revenues, maintaining a state address register, creating a national geospatial data infrastructure and a number of other issues.
