Serhiy Demedyuk: We should raise the level of Ukrainian-American dialogue in cybersecurity
Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Serhiy Demedyuk held an online meeting with U.S. National Cyber Director Chris Inglis.
Mr. Demedyuk informed about the main tasks of the National Cybersecurity Coordination Center at the NSDC of Ukraine noticing that the NCSCC coordinates the implementation of the Cybersecurity Strategy of Ukraine recently adopted and enacted by the Decree of the President of Ukraine.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects of practical cybersecurity cooperation. “Ukraine has many developments in this area”, - Mr. Demedyuk stated.
According to the Deputy NSDC Secretary, it is important to “establish cyber diplomacy” in terms of joint coordination of measures to counter cyber incidents, as well as to introduce the practice of joint statements on large-scale cyber attacks against Ukraine and the United States.
Another important area of cooperation, according to Mr. Demedyuk, is the fight against ransomware criminals who operate in cyberspace, particularly at the international level. “We support the U.S.-led Counter Ransomware Initiative and are ready to coordinate the efforts of key cybersecurity actors to effectively counter such criminals”, - he said. He added that law enforcement agencies of Ukraine are ready to take relevant investigative actions, but to increase the effectiveness of this work it is necessary to promptly obtain information from foreign partners.
The Deputy NSDC Secretary also noted that Ukraine is interested in the U.S. experience in creating cyber troops, and spoke in favor of strengthening cooperation in the field of cyber defense.
“We are ready to exchange information about cyber incidents in real time”, - Mr. Demedyuk said.
In his turn, Mr. Inglis praised Ukraine’s achievements in building a cyber defense system, stressed the importance of further developing public-private partnerships and comprehensive solutions in cybersecurity and cyber defense, and expressed the view that our countries have significant potential for cooperation in this area.
He also informed about the architecture of the U.S. cybersecurity agencies and the relevant coordinating role of the U.S. National Security Council.
Head of the State Service for Special Communication and Information Protection of Ukraine Yuriy Shchyhol, First Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation Oleksiy Vyskub, and First Secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States Georgii Dubynskyi participated in the online meeting.
