On the Day of Remembrance of the Heroes of Kruty, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Honored Those Who Fell for Ukraine’s Independence

Today, January 29, a commemorative ceremony took place in Kyiv at Askold’s Grave to honor the Heroes of Kruty. The event was attended by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, along with the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine, Oleksandr Lytvynenko.
During the ceremony, the President, along with the military leadership, heads of law enforcement and security agencies, laid flowers at the memorial cross dedicated to the Heroes of Kruty.
Other participants included the Head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov, cadets of higher military educational institutions, and other officials.
Background Information
On January 29, 2025, Ukrainians commemorate the 107th anniversary of the Heroes of Kruty, who in 1918 defended the independence of the young Ukrainian People’s Republic. This date remains one of the brightest examples of heroism, self-sacrifice, and national dignity in the history of Ukraine.
