Oleksiy Solovyov held a meeting on providing citizens with quality drinking water
As part of the control over the implementation of the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine of July 30, 2021 “On the state of water resources of Ukraine”, enacted by the Decree of the President of Ukraine of August 13, 2021, № 357, Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Solovyov held a meeting with representatives of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection to discuss the provision of population with quality drinking water.
According to the report of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection Vladyslava Mahaletska, it was acknowledged that local authorities did not fully ensure the preparation of drinking water supply systems to work according to the requirements of the State Sanitary Norms and Rules “Hygienic requirements for drinking water intended for human consumption” approved by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine on May 12, 2010, № 400 and registered by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on July 1, 2010, № 452/17747 (DSanPiN 2.2.4-171-10).
Most water supply and sewerage companies have not provided for the reconstruction and modernization of production facilities, which jeopardizes the ability to provide the population with drinking water according to the new quality standards.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to intensify joint work of the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, as well as local executive bodies and local governments to correct the situation and ensure starting from 01.01.2022 the supply of drinking water to the population in accordance with the requirements of approved standards.
In addition, the meeting covered the adaptation of national legislation in the field of pesticides and agrochemicals to European Union legislation, in particular the implementation of tasks set by the NSDC decision of March 19, 2021 “On measures to improve chemical safety in Ukraine” enacted by the Presidential Decree of March 19, 2021, № 104.
Solving this problem will help to comply with the legislative requirements and environmental safety standards when using pesticides and agrochemicals, prevent the violation of the ecological balance in ecosystems, as well as protect citizens’ health and lives.
