Ruslan KHOMCHAK
First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, Colonel General.
Born on 5 June 1967 in Lviv.
Education: in 1988 graduated from the Moscow Combined Arms School. In 2001, graduated summa cum laude from the National Defence Academy of Ukraine, having received an operational and tactical level education. In 2008, graduated summa cum laude from the Faculty of Operational and Strategic Training of the National Defence Academy of Ukraine.
In 1988-1992, served as a member of the Group of Soviet Troops in Germany and in the Belarusian Military District.
In 1993, continued his service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In 1994, appointed as commander of a mechanised battalion of the 24th Mechanised Division.
In 2001, appointed as commander of the 300th separate mechanised regiment.
In 2005, appointed as commander of the 72nd Mechanised Brigade.
In 2010, appointed as First Deputy Commander of the 6th Army Corps, and later Chief of Staff, First Deputy Commander of the 8th Army Corps.
In 2012, appointed as Commander of the 6th Army Corps (since November 2013 - Operational Command "South", which he headed as acting commander).
In 2014, appointed as Commander of the Southern Operational Command.
In 2015, appointed as Chief of Staff, First Deputy Commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Since February 2017, served as Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
In May 2019, appointed as Chief of the General Staff and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In March 2020, due to the splitting of the positions of the Chief of the General Staff and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, appointed as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On 27 July 2021, by the Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 322/2021, appointed as First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine.
Married and has a daughter.
