Oleksiy Danilov on the work of the MMCs: Attention and respect for the defenders of Ukraine should be maximized
Attention and respect for the defenders of Ukraine should be maximized. This was stated by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksii Danilov on Friday, September 1, 2023, on ICTV TV channel.
Oleksiy Danilov said that on Wednesday, during a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, which considered the issue of the work of the MMCs, reports were heard from representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine, the State Bureau of Investigation, the military, the Prosecutor General, military doctors, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, and the Minister of Health.
According to him, the Obumdsman's office is currently reviewing the work of the MMCs, including the validity of their decisions on disability and unfitness for military service, which may be related to corruption violations. The NSDC Secretary noted that, unfortunately, cases of unjustified decisions on unfitness for military service are not uncommon.
"In two or three weeks we will have the results of the inspection," he said, emphasizing that those responsible for committing crimes will be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
Oleksiy Danilov also noted that it is necessary to eliminate the double interpretation of the terms "fit" and "conditionally fit" for military service, and therefore the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine has instructed, among other things, to review the system of determining fitness for military service to give commanders more opportunities to involve servicemen in performing tasks and to prevent manipulations with the concept of limited fitness.
The NSDC Secretary also said that a number of regions have already achieved one hundred percent of the results of expanding the military medical examination system to civilian medical institutions, while in some regions such expansion is being hampered.
"I think that after the National Security and Defense Council's decision to intensify the expansion of opportunities for military personnel to undergo medical examinations in civilian medical facilities, they will do what they should have done much earlier," he added.
According to Oleksiy Danilov, all issues related to the work of the military medical commission and medical examinations of combatants are under the control of the President of Ukraine. "Attention and respect for Ukraine's defenders should be maximized," he said, "It's about justice, about the price they pay with their lives and health for our nation to live".
