Extension of martial law and mobilisation: the NSDC Secretary submits two draft laws to the Parliament
On Tuesday, 23 July, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Lytvynenko presented two draft laws to the parliament that provide for the extension of martial law and general mobilisation from 12 August 2024 for a period of 90 days.
The draft Law of Ukraine ‘On Approval of the Decree of the President of Ukraine “On Extension of the Martial Law in Ukraine” was developed in accordance with paragraph 20 of part one of Article 106 of the Constitution of Ukraine and Article 5 of the Law of Ukraine “On the Legal Regime of Martial Law”. It provides for the approval of the Decree of the President of Ukraine ‘On Extension of the Martial Law in Ukraine’ from 12 August 2024 for 90 days, until 9 November.
The other draft law, On Approval of the Presidential Decree on Extension of the Period of General Mobilisation, also provides for a 90-day extension of the period of general mobilisation from 12 August.
The Ukrainian Parliament approved both decrees of the Head of State.
Currently, martial law and mobilisation in Ukraine is in effect until 12 August.
