On 19 August 2024, Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine and Head of the NCCC Serhii Demediuk, Head of the Information Security and Cybersecurity Service of the NSDC of Ukraine Nataliia Tkachuk and Head of the NCCC Support Department Serhii Prokopenko held a working meeting with representatives of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).The parties discussed a wide range of issues related to strengthening cooperation in cybersecurity, and organising joint activities aimed at increasing Ukraine's cyber resilience.
"We are sincerely grateful to the Government of Japan and representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency for their ongoing cooperation and support of Ukraine. Cooperation with JICA, in particular the Hackwave cyber exercise, has confirmed the effectiveness of our joint efforts to strengthen the national cybersecurity system. I am confident that these initiatives will lay a solid foundation for the further development of our relations, allowing us not only to counter cyber threats, but also to exchange experience and data on current cyber threats to respond more effectively to challenges and strengthen collective security. Together, we can strengthen both the cyber resilience of Ukraine and the entire democratic world", - said Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine Serhii Demediuk.
During the meeting, the participants discussed the results of cooperation in cybersecurity, in particular the large-scale Hackwave cyber exercise held last year by the NCCC jointly with JICA. These exercises became an important step in strengthening Ukraine's cyber resilience and improving the skills of Ukrainian specialists.
At the request of the Japanese side, the parties discussed the possibility of conducting training events by Ukrainian specialists for Japanese colleagues, taking into account Ukraine's unique experience in countering cyber aggression in the context of a full-scale military invasion. The parties also identified further steps to deepen cooperation, including the development of the National Cybersecurity System, training and the introduction of advanced technologies.
Representatives of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine and JICA reaffirmed their readiness to continue supporting Ukraine in strengthening its cybersecurity system, emphasising the importance of long-term cooperation and partnership in this strategically important area.
