Oleksandr Turchynov: Our defense must withstand any attack

Today NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov in the area of ATO held a meeting regarding completion of the defensive lines. The meeting was held with the participation of Deputy to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Gennady Zubko, executives of Ministry of Defense, the General Staff, military chiefs of sectors of the area of ATO, executives of National Guard, State Border Service, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Antiterrorist Center of Security Service of Ukraine.

"The construction of defensive lines had been carried out significantly longer than planned, but now it has come to its final stage", - said NSDC Secretary and added that a considerable part of defensive bases had been already constructed and accepted by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"The construction of other defensive bases will be completed in the nearest future" - he said.

According to Oleksandr Turchynov, the purpose of defensive lines, built along the line of collision, is "to stop any enemy attack, including the attacks of regular units of Russian Armed Forces, and to create preconditions for a powerful response".

"Engineering and mine-barrage infrastructure that is created around the defensive bases and firing positions, should prevent a breakthrough of our defense at the junctions of the defense positions and become a reliable barrier for penetration attempts of reconnaissance and sabotage and terrorist groups from the occupied territory", - NSDC Secretary noted.

The particular attention Oleksandr Turchynov paid to the quality of defense facilities. "Iron-concrete fortifications must protect our military even in case of a direct hit by shells and mines", - he stressed. NSDC Secretary drew attention of the executives of the General Staff and Ministry of Defense to the need for a thorough acceptance of defensive lines, "so there would be no structural flaws and defects, which may adversely affect the safety and protection of men".

After the meeting the inspection of the performed work was held at several defensive bases which are located on the first line of defense and carry a significant burden during the shelling, that despite the Minsk agreements are constantly carried out by Russian-terrorist groups.
