Oleksandr Turchynov: Strengthening of our defense potential is the only possible response to Putin’s territorial claims towards Ukraine

The only possible response to Putin in regard of his territorial claims towards Ukraine is strengthening of our defense capabilities. In this way Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov commented the statements of Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the illegality of situation, when Donbas became a part of Ukraine.

"The head of the state, which has nuclear capabilities, casts doubt on borders in Europe, which were formed after World War II, openly advancing territorial claims towards Ukraine. In so doing, during his speech in the Kremlin, Putin stated that Donbas became a part of Ukraine unlawfully", - Mr. Turchynov stressed.

"Such public statements is an undisguised attempt to politically justify the military aggression against our country" - he said, explaining that this is yet another proof that Russia is not going to voluntarily cease the occupation and hostilities in the East of our country.

In opinion of NSDC Secretary, the only response to this aggression we should provide - to strengthen our defense capabilities. "In particular, to produce the most modern weapons, able to stop and destroy the aggressor", - he added.

This comment NSDC Secretary gave before the beginning of the closed meeting with leading designers, scientists and Defense Industry management regarding the plan of activities on producing and testing of new domestic missile weapons in 2016.
