Oleksandr Turchynov: We should shorten the time from development of the new types of weapons to their practical application

We should shorten the time from development of the new types of weapons to their practical application. This was statated by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov at the opening of the exhibition "Science for defense and security" organized by the National Academy of Science of Ukraine together with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and "Ukroboronprom" State Concern.

Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine emphasized that today "no country can protect itself without modern scientific developments, moreover - the country that is countering military agression".

"We have no alternative other than relying on our own strengths and potential. When considering the mobilization of the whole county's potential for defense and security, we should realize the importance of mobilizing its intellectual potential, fisrst of all. This is the only way we can stand and resist, the only way for us to be victorious", - he noted.

According to Mr. Turchynov, it is impossible to ensure the new quality of the state defense without fundamental scientific research. In this context, he highly appreciated innovations presented at the exhibition, which are aimed at improving military equipment, enhancing its efficiency, and increasing its exploitation terms, and also those developments ensuring protection and saving of lives of the Ukrainian military. In particular, the NSDC Secretry distinguished combined dressings to stop bleeding and accelerate wound healing, cryotechnologies of long-term blood cells storage, new biomaterials for restoring bone tissue and functions of the damaged organ, as well as camouflage composite coating to reduce the potential detection of objects in the infrared band spectrum, welding and surfacing technology for repair and modernization of armored vehicles, heavy-duty ceramic-composite armor elements, sapphire-containing transparent armor, and other developments.

The NSDC Secretary stressed that Ukraine needs powerful and effective national "deterrence weapons", "new developments of lethal arms able to stop and destroy the enemy". "We need new ideas, new quality, and new power", - he emphasized.

To Mr. Turchynov's belief, promising scientific developments should not remain on paper. "We should shorten the time from development to testing and application of findings of the scientists, designers, and engineers", - he pointed out stressing the need to unite efforts of power structures and to expand the NSDC's control of the implementation of this urgent task. "Therefore, - the NSDC Secretary underscored, - such exhibitions can and should become the source of new ideas to be implemented in defense construction as soon as possible".
