Oleksandr Turchynov: We are developing a security system that will protect us against any cyberattacks
Information security and cybersecurity are an overriding priority for the country, which is experiencing a state of a hybrid war. This was stressed by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov in an interview with the "Livyi Bereg" online newspaper.
Mr. Turchynov stressed that Russia is actively using cybernetic technologies for aggression not only against Ukraine but also against the EU and the US.
According to Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine, cyberattacks are aimed not only at public information resources but at objects of strategic infrastructure as well. "Add to this the stepping-up of cyber-espionage and cybercrime", - he said.
Therefore, the task of the recently established National Coordination Center for Cybersecurity, Mr. Turchynov noticed, is to bring together and coordinate the efforts of all governmental agencies.
"We have provided a clear demarcation of the scopes of activity, specified the specialization and the sectors of responsibility. Now everyone knows what falls under the responsibility of the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection, of the relevant departments of the Security Service of Ukraine or the National Police, the Ministry of Defense and the intelligence agencies", - the NSDC Secretary pointed out.
"The first stage is passed. Today, a powerful system of protection of public resources is being created, - the so-called National telecommunications system. The project is costly, but there is no alternative since the task of this system is to fully protect information resources of the critical infrastructure and public sector from any cyberattacks", - Oleksandr Turchynov said.
In this context, he noted that "the most powerful cyberattack carried out last week on the e-declaration system could not break it". Only the NACP website crashed, as it was not protected by the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection", - he added.
