Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov met with with Special Assistant to the US President on cybersecurity Josh Steinman.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the issues of Ukrainian-American cooperation in the cybersecurity sphere. According to Mr. Turchynov, Russia has been waging a hybrid war against Ukraine for the fourth year, with cyber aggression being one of its parts.
"Ukraine has withstood several powerful cyberattacks, which have caused a rather significant damage. The losses our state suffered are estimated at tens of millions of dollars", - he said.
"In order to provide a systemic counteraction to cyberthreats, the NSDC of Ukraine adopted the Cybersecurity Strategy. To coordinate the structures responsible for various aspects of this issue, the National Coordination Center for Cybersecurity under the NSDC was established", - Mr. Turchynov noticed.
Moreover, according to him, the national telecommunication network is being deployed and a protective IT contour is being created to protect state information resources and objects of critical infrastructure.
The interlocutors also considered measures taken by Ukraine to protect its cyberspace, in particular, the ban on some software products, social networks and information resources of the Russian Federation.
In his turn, Mr. Steinmann emphasized that US President Donald Trump "considers cybersecurity extremely important, and he appreciates the current level of cooperation between our countries".
"Ukraine has gained direct experience in countering hybrid aggression, and the United States are interested in its analysis and study", - Mr. Steinman noted adding that "when there are good friends, one isn't afraid of the enemies".
For his part, Mr. Turchynov stressed that Ukraine and the United States, joining their efforts, can effectively counteract any cyberthreats.
