Oleksandr Turchynov: The NSDC of Ukraine unanimously supported the proposal to the President of Ukraine to invoke martial law for 60 days
The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine unanimously supported the proposal to the President of Ukraine to invoke martial law for 60 days. This was stated by Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov after the meeting of the Council which considered the issue of declaring the state of martial law.
According to the NSDC Secretary, the actions of the Russian Federation against the ships of the Ukrainian Naval Forces "are armed aggression against Ukraine, which falls under paragraphs c and d of Article 3 of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 3314 (ХХIХ) of 14 December 1974".
"Reasoning from this fact, the NSDC considered it necessary to introduce a special legal state of martial law in Ukraine in order to create conditions for repelling armed aggression, to ensure national security, and to eliminate the threats to the state independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine", - Mr. Turchynov said. - In this regard, the President is proposed to invoke martial law in Ukraine for 60 days".
