Oleksandr Turchynov: Our priority is high-precision missile weapons
Our priority is high-precision weapons, missile ones primarily. This was stated by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov in his speech at the 12th Kiev Security Forum.
"The growth of our country's missile potential is a topical issue in the conditions of the destruction by Russia of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, - he said. - The collapse of this Treaty is a powerful impetus for bringing the arms race to a new level. But, first of all, this means that smaller and medium range missiles threaten our country first and foremost".
In this context, the NSDC Secretary stressed that Russia's simultaneous total missile strike against Ukraine today amounts to 364 missiles of "Iskander", "Caliber", and other systems.
"This is a challenge for us, and our task is to counteract the danger", - Mr. Turchynov emphasized. "Therefore, an important priority is the further development of the missile shield of our country, the creation of new missile systems", - he said, informing that the successful tests of cruise missiles and modern missile systems last week "have significantly strengthened our defense potential and the ability to reliably protect the Azov and Black Sea coast of Ukraine".
