A regular meeting of the working group on overcoming threats in the energy sector was held at the Staff of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. The conditions for introducing and utilizing renewable energy sources in the United Energy System (UES) of Ukraine were discussed.
Representatives of ministries and agencies, specialists of the Staff of the NSDC of Ukraine.
Opening the meeting, Chairman of the Working Group, President of the Ukrainian National Committee CIGRE, Honored Power Engineer of Ukraine Oleksandr Svetelik stressed the importance of introducing new rules of the domestic energy market that would meet European standards, promote renewable energy and increase responsibility for power imbalance in the power system.
Director General of “NTK ENPASELECTRO” LLC, Vice President, Chairman of the Technical Committee of the CIGRE National Committee Yuriy Bondarenko analyzed the challenges and major trends in the development of world energy given the introduction of new technologies.
He proposed, in particular, to establish in Ukraine a coordination center to develop the concept for developing the electric power industry based on innovative technologies, as well as working groups to develop technical requirements for the introduction of new technologies. According to Mr. Bondarenko, given the rapid growth of the distributive renewable generation, it is necessary to implement new solutions to ensure the regulation of the domestic power system.
The participants of the meeting discussed the ways to stimulate the development of storage capacity (speaker – Olga Babiy, a member of the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities).
The participants of the meeting also paid attention to the issues of forecasting the production of electricity by renewable energy sources (RES) and the implementation of BESS systems (battery energy storage systems) using smart grid technologies. Relevant reports were presented by Doctor of technical sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Power Plants and Systems of Vinnytsia National Technical University Petro Lezhniuk and Chairman of the Board of Global 100% RE Ukraine, President of MHP Eco Energy Oleksandr Dombrovsky.
The participants of the meeting through Skype conference got acquainted with the experience of forecasting electricity generation and control of RES operation modes on the example of the European Spanish power system control center.
As previously reported, the President of Ukraine by Decree of May 29, 2020, № 206 approved the Regulations on the Council of Experts on Energy Security at the NSDC of Ukraine (Chairman of the Council is Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov).
The NSDC Secretary has repeatedly stressed the need to take urgent decisions to balance the electricity market, prevent manipulation, and protect the citizens’ interests.
