Oleksiy Danilov: The CEC should take measures to immediately establish and publish the results of voting in this year's local elections
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov draws the attention of the Central Election Commission to the need to take immediate measures to establish the results of the local elections on October 25, 2020 and publish them promptly on the CEC official website.
In a letter to Chairman of the Central Election Commission Oleh Didenko, the NSDC Secretary noted that the CEC is doing significant work to ensure the rights of Ukrainian citizens to vote and be elected under the new election law.
“At the same time, the NSDC Staff is recording an increase in social tensions and, as a consequence, the emergence of risks to national security in a situation related to insufficient public information about the official election results”, - he stated.
Mr. Danilov particularly reminded that according to the calendar plan of the main organizational measures for preparing and holding local elections on October 25, 2020, approved by the CEC resolution of August 8, 2020 № 163, the deadline for establishing the results of local elections is November 6, 2020 inclusive.
“At the same time, as of today, the results of local elections have not been established in some territorial constituencies”, - the Secretary of the Council noticed reminding of the legislative norms regarding the CEC control over the organization of preparation and holding of local elections, as well as the establishment by the Commission of local election results in case some TECs fail to comply with the Electoral Code.
“Considering the above mentioned, in the interests of national security and given that free, public and transparent elections are a prerequisite for ensuring the principle of democracy, are a mandatory standard for a democratic, free and open society, I draw attention to the urgent need to establish the results of the local elections on October 25, 2020 and publish them immediately on the official website of the Central Election Commission”, - the letter reads.
