Deputy Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine Oleksiy Solovyov took part in exercises on actions in case of a possible accident at Zaporizhzhia NPP

Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Solovyov took part in a joint two-stage staff training with evacuation authorities of regional and local levels on June 29, 2023, as part of a working visit to Zaporizhzhia and Dnipro regions: "Organization of management of evacuation measures in case of a radiation accident at Zaporizhzhya NPP".

Oleksiy Solovyov noted the high level of readiness of the SES and local authorities to respond promptly to an emergency that may occur at Zaporizhzhya NPP.

The exercises demonstrated high readiness to overcome the consequences of a radiation accident, ensure proper protection of the population in the areas of possible contamination and minimize the negative impact on the region's vital activity.

The exercise involved more than 2,000 people and 340 pieces of equipment from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the National Police of Ukraine, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Health, as well as the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, Energoatom, Zaporizhzhia and Dnipro Regional State Administrations.

The exercise tested the process of deploying sanitary treatment stations for people, special treatment of equipment, medical and psychological assistance, and organization of dosimetric monitoring in the potentially contaminated area.

In general, during the exercise, the participants practiced the procedure for notifying and informing the public about a radiation accident, organizing sheltering in protective structures, evacuating from the areas of greatest damage, etc.

The coherence of interaction of evacuation authorities at the regional and local levels with the management bodies and civil protection forces of the Dnipropetrovs'k territorial subsystem and its units, territorial bodies of central executive authorities during the organization and implementation of evacuation measures was also practiced.

The level of theoretical and practical training of officials of evacuation commissions, training of administrations of task forces for collecting and dispatching evacuees, assembly, intermediate, and receiving evacuation centers was assessed, and their readiness for practical actions was checked.
