Oleksandr Lytvynenko discussed the security situation with a group of Swedish geopolitical experts
The purpose of russian missile attacks on peaceful cities in Ukraine is terror. With such strikes, the Kremlin wants to provoke new waves of refugees to Europe. This was emphasised by Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Lytvynenko on Tuesday, 23 April, during a meeting with a group of Swedish experts on geopolitics, security and international relations from the Stockholm Centre for East European Studies (SCEEUS), a leading think tank under the Swedish Foreign Ministry.
In the course of the dialogue, the parties discussed the security situation, social, political and economic consequences of russia's war against Ukraine. In particular, the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine underlined that Ukraine needs support from its partners and more weapons and missiles for its air defence systems.
Fredrik Löjdquist, Director of the Stockholm Centre for East European Studies, expressed support for Ukraine in its fight against the russian aggressor on behalf of the delegation. For her part, Katja Salsbäck, Deputy Director of the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, former Deputy Ambassador of Sweden to Ukraine, added that on the battlefield Ukraine is defending not only its own freedom and independence, but also the security of Europe.
