Natalia Tkachuk: NCCC launches initiative to strengthen the role of women in cybersecurity
On Saturday, November 2, Natalia Tkachuk, Head of the Information Security and Cybersecurity Service of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Secretary of the National Coordination Center for Cybersecurity (NCCC), announced the launch of a national initiative to strengthen the role of women in cybersecurity during the third module of the SJC-2025 Strategic Leadership for Cybersecurity Executives program organized by the NCCC in cooperation with GC3 here.
In her speech, the Secretary of the NCCC noted that the decision to launch and develop the initiative was unanimously supported by the NCCC members during a meeting on September 19, 2024. Natalia Tkachuk emphasized the need to increase women's participation in cybersecurity, especially during Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and stressed the importance of gender balance in strengthening national cyber resilience.
‘This project will help expand Ukraine's human resources and innovative capabilities, ensuring gender equality and the involvement of women in strategic and operational tasks in cybersecurity. The initiative is not only in line with the principles of social justice and human rights, but is also a strategic necessity for Ukraine in times of war and will strengthen Ukraine's position as an international leader in cybersecurity. After all, ensuring gender equality is a serious resource for economic and social development and security, which is extremely important for our country today. We invite the private and public sectors, educational institutions, and international partners to join this important initiative,‘ said Natalia Tkachuk.
As part of the event, with the support of the Foundation for Women's Leadership and Strategic Initiatives, a practical lesson “Modeling Relationships: Pro & Contra of Gender Equality”. The program participants considered various aspects of the role of women in cybersecurity, assessed the benefits of the initiative for cybersecurity and the economy of Ukraine, developed strategic measures for its implementation at the national level, analyzed challenges and suggested ways to overcome stereotypes in society.
This approach allowed for a comprehensive assessment of the importance of gender equality in the cybersphere and contributed to the formation of ideas for creating an inclusive environment that supports women's leadership, which will be taken into account in the further development of the project.
