Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov held an interagency meeting on a stable supply of energy to domestic consumers.

Opening the meeting, Mr. Danilov noticed that the NSDC Staff is carrying out planned and systematic work to monitor the uninterrupted operation of heat generation enterprises in connection with the expected deterioration of weather conditions, and relevant letters were sent to Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and heads of regional state administrations on January 11, 2021.

The NSDC Secretary also drew attention to that it’s unacceptable to reduce the level of executive discipline, emphasizing the unsatisfactory implementation of the Decree of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy of December 2, 2019, № 874, which put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine of December 2, 2019 “On urgent measures to ensure energy security”.

Mr. Danilov also stressed the need to strengthen control over the operation of critical infrastructure in the winter period.

Representatives of ministries and agencies reported on the current state of affairs in the energy sphere. It was noted that energy companies are able to provide stable energy and heat supply to domestic consumers, especially the population.

There was an exchange of views on how to solve the existing problems in the industry, in particular in the supply of coal to thermal power stations in the amount needed to ensure a proper level of reserve, given the expected peak load due to a sharp temperature drop.

Mr. Danilov also addressed the participants of the meeting on the issue of developing the Energy Security Strategy, the creation of which is envisaged by the National Security Strategy of Ukraine. According to him, this strategy must take into account the existing challenges. “It is necessary to build a sustainable energy supply system in the country. This is an extremely important task”, - Mr. Danilov said.
