Oleksii Danilov: We are grateful to the European Parliament for its strong support of Ukraine
Oleksii Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, met with a delegation of the Chairmen of the European Parliament’s Committees.
The delegation included: David McAllister, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET); Bernd Lange, Chair of the Conference of Committee Chairs; Pascal Canfin, Chair of Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety; Nathalie Loiseau, Chair of Subcommittee on Security and Defence; Michael Gahler, Standing AFET Committee rapporteur on Ukraine and others.
Oleksii Danilov thanked the MEPs for the comprehensive assistance that our country and its citizens have been receiving from the European Parliament since the first days of russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.
“Ukraine is currently facing challenging times, times when important decisions need to be made. I am grateful to the European Parliament for its strong and tangible support,” – he emphhasised.
The NSDC Secretary assured the MEPs that Ukrainians will continue to fight firmly to preserve their sovereignty and liberate their territories from russian occupiers.
For his part, the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, David McAllister, stressed that the delegation had come to Ukraine to demonstrate its support in a very difficult time for Ukraine. He also noted that the European Parliament would continue to support Ukrainians in their fight against the aggressor.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the security situation in Ukraine, the consequences of the russian federation’s attacks on peaceful cities, arming, mobilisation, etc.
Oleksii Danilov also touched upon the decolonisation of the russian federation, which, according to him, will already take place “right before our eyes”. The NSDC Secretary urged the West to prepare for this process and stressed that it is inevitable, as “the ideology of the “russian pax” does not work, because there are no russian people: there are Tatars, Bashkirs, Udmurts with their own cultures, languages, traditions...”.
The NSDC Secretary also added that Ukraine’s victory in the war with russia “will be another indicator of why the russian federation will be decolonised”.
Oleksii Danilov drew the delegation’s attention to the high probability that russia will interfere in the upcoming elections in the United States, the European Union, and the United Kingdom. In his opinion, the evidence for this is the disinformation campaigns that russia uses as a foreign policy tool. Thus, according to him, in addition to Ukraine, russia is actively spreading its disinformation in Poland, Germany, and France.
Answering a question from Nathalie Loiseau, Chair of Subcommittee on Security and Defence, about armaments, Oleksii Danilov said that “there are never enough weapons when it comes to war”.
At the end of the meeting, the MEPs assured of further cooperation and support for Ukraine.
